2024 Testimonial - Maddy Camp
I am thrilled to share my experience as a senior high school student serving as an intern at the Great Valley Community Organization (GVCO). This community exploration internship opportunity has provided me with invaluable insights into the dynamic world of community service programming, the inner workings of a non-profit corporation, and the intricate landscape of youth sports programming. GVCO has allowed me to take advantage of the Community Exploration program where I leave early from school to go work at the community center while also receiving 0.50 credits for graduation.
The GVCO internship program is designed to not only allow high school students, like myself, to contribute meaningfully to the organization but also to expose us to the business side of a non-profit corporation. Throughout my time at GVCO, I have had the privilege of being involved in various aspects of their community service and youth sports programming, gaining hands-on experience that goes beyond the classroom.
One of the highlights of this internship is the exposure to a range of systems and technologies that GVCO utilizes to run its programs efficiently. I have had the opportunity to work with MS Sharepoint, Constant Contact, the GVBL App, Adobe Express, Google Forms, and Sign-up Genius. These tools play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of GVCO, and the experience of using them has not only enhanced my technical skills but has also given me a real-world understanding of their impact on program management.
What sets this internship apart is the collaborative effort, effective communication, and teamwork required to navigate these systems successfully. Working alongside dedicated professionals and volunteers involved with the organization, I have learned the importance of clear communication and cooperation in ensuring the seamless execution of GVCO's programs. The exposure to such a diverse array of tools has not only broadened my technological skill set but has also reinforced the significance of teamwork in achieving common goals.
This internship has been instrumental in shaping my perspective on community service and the non-profit sector. It has provided me with a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the community while gaining practical experience in utilizing technologies. The supportive environment at GVCO has encouraged my personal and professional growth, and I am leaving this internship with a profound appreciation for the positive impact that non-profit organizations can have on a community.
I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Great Valley Community Organization and would highly recommend this internship program to any high school student seeking a transformative and enriching experience. Thank you, GVCO, for the guidance, mentorship, and the chance to contribute to something truly meaningful.
2023 Testimonial - Sophie Geibel
My name is Sophia Geibel and I am one of the interns for The Great Valley Community Organization this year. I am, however, the only intern that has taken advantage of the work release program offered at Great Valley and would love to promote what I do to younger students. The first three years of my high school career I decided to take numerous AP classes and had a heavy workload. I was also placed in a high-level math, allowing me to finish the required courses early in my high school career. With most of my credits completed, I was left with a small selection of courses that seemed beneficial for my intended major and interests.
After finding out about the work release program, I knew it was something that interested me. It took a lot of connecting and communicating to find GVCO as an option for my senior year. I was lucky enough to both discover and be given this opportunity. I have found this experience to be extremely beneficial to my development as I approach college. I have learned so much from being hands-on in a work environment every day. I have been taught how to manage and schedule efficiently and have worked with countless amounts of software. I have also been introduced to both the marketing and financial sides of a business. I have learned so much in a short period of time and I will value and carry this information with me for the rest of my time as both a student and an employee. I believe that the work release program is an amazing way to prepare for any future after high school. I have loved my experience and I hope that others can be introduced to the program and what it has to offer!
