Do you like to make new friends and learn new skills and have lots of fun while you’re doing it? Then you have come to the right place! An integral piece of the Challenger Gym and Challenger Hoopsters programs is our Volunteer Buddies. They accompany our participants on every step, hop, roll, run and slide all while playing, encouraging, and generally having fun.
Volunteering for Challenger Gym - Grades 9-12
Help children with special needs participate with activities such as obstacle courses, bowling, balloon fun, relay races and throwing games. Sessions are 3:45-5:30PM on March 6, 13, 20, 27 and April 3, 10. The number of volunteers needed is dependent upon Challenger registrants.
All slots have been filled for Spring Challenger Gym.
If you have any questions, please contact either Wendy Morris or Debbie McAneney at [email protected]. All are welcome!
The most notable feedback we get regarding this program from every session is the strength of the high school Buddies and the impact they have on the participants. Families are so very grateful for the time and patience given. But we also see the impact that these participants have on the Buddies. Each week, the Buddies are excited to see their friends and play some more as they learn about what the word “abilities” can really mean. Please consider being a volunteer Buddy if you are able – you won’t regret it!

Volunteer for Challenger Gym
At the heart of the program are the dedicated high school buddy volunteers who remain the same each week. Under the direction of Wendy Morris, a licensed and practicing physical therapist, the “buddies” are guided in building relationships and helping everyone to successfully participate. Over the years, the response has been fantastic. Friendships have blossomed and a comfort level interacting with people of all abilities has left life-long impressions on many.
